My Calling

I am **Sr. Elizabeth Pebane** from Bloemfontein, born in Jackersfontein. My call came through the preaching of **Fr. Clarhout**. When he spoke about the disciples, I worried that a woman could not follow Jesus in such a way. He assured me that women were doing the great apostolic work of the Church and offered to introduce me to the Sisters.

Leaving home was difficult. I was my father’s favorite daughter, and while my mother gave me a parting kiss, my father hid behind the house to keep busy, unable to watch me leave. Meeting **Mother Francisca** initially scared me, but I soon found joy and a sense of belonging when I met other African youngsters already at the convent.

“I started with humble work—feeding pigs and milking cows. Later, I was called to ‘fish’ for souls, serving as a Novice Mistress for 15 years, training the women who are now the heart of our community.”

A Mission Fulfilled

While I originally wished to work directly in the mission fields, **Fr. Morrisey** helped me realize my true calling: to train and form the people who would go out and do that work. It has been a blessing to see the good Sisters they have become today.

I have served my community through transition and growth, and now I am enjoying my old age in the peace of the Lord. Thank you!
