Social & Urban Ministries
Embracing Christ in the poor, broken, and marginalized on our city streets.
Practical Actions & Self-Reliance
Living a life centered on faith means being ready to construct, maintain, and restore the spaces around us. Our sisters utilize their practical and technical training to maintain our structures independently, setting a direct example of hard work, self-reliance, and determination.
Whether working on farm implements, constructing furniture, or maintaining complex property facilities, these efforts ensure that our resources are maximized to continue fueling our essential charitable outreach throughout our local villages and provinces.
Restoring Dignity on the Streets of Gauteng
Our sisters serving in Gauteng witness a unique, urgent form of brokenness. Many individuals migrate to the urban centers of Gauteng dreaming of bright job opportunities to escape crushing poverty. Too often, deceptive promises fall through, leaving them entirely abandoned, destitute, and forgotten on the streets.
In their desperate attempts to cope with this raw poverty, many turn to the dark grips of drug abuse, while others find themselves driven to selling their bodies through sex work or begging along busy city corridors just to survive.
The Franciscan Sisters step directly into these broken realities with open hearts. Our central mission is to bring back the structural and spiritual dignity of those involved in drugs and prostitution. By sharing the Word of God with them, we remind them of their sacred worth in the eyes of the Creator. Alongside this spiritual nourishment, we engage with them deeply, showing them human warmth, and distributing critical food parcels to alleviate their constant hunger.
This life-saving ministry of restoration is kept alive entirely through the active spiritual and financial support of our fellow Catholics and generous benefactors who share our heart for the poor.
