Tshepo ya Bophelo
“Hope of Life” — Child and Youth Care Centre
Our Aim: Protect and Preserve
For us as Franciscans, children come first. When children face harm or disadvantage, our Constitution requires us to act. Established in 2019, Tshepo ya Bophelo rose from the desperate situations our Sisters witnessed while doing pastoral work in Bloemfontein, Bothaville, and surrounding areas.
“The child’s best interests are of paramount importance in all matters concerning care, protection, and wellbeing.” — Section 9, The Child’s Act
A Legacy of Care
The centre is located at the Assisi Mission in a building that originally served as a maternity hospital. In 2019, seeing the rising number of orphaned and abandoned children, the Province renovated the building to create a sanctuary. Officially inaugurated on April 9, 2021, by Archbishop Zolile Peter Mpambane, it now stands as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO).

We aim to inspire hope that lives can be changed. We want the children we help to take the skills and knowledge they gain here and use them to help others in the future. No child should suffer fear.
