Assisi Farm Primary School

Assisi Farm Primary School

Rooted in Faith, Growing in Wisdom since 1932

"We believe that all are children of God, and therefore no discrimination should be practiced."

Our Humble Beginnings

Following the arrival of our German Sisters at the Assisi Mission in 1932—then known as Morumotso Black Forest—they recognized a great need to support the education of children in the area. At that time, many children came from neighbouring farms, such as Fragment and The Heart, among others.

In the early stages, teaching took place under very simple conditions. Lessons were often conducted under trees, as there were no proper school buildings. Gradually, however, buildings were constructed step by step through great sacrifice and effort.

The Sisters found great joy in their mission, especially in serving the poor in rural areas, inspired by the Franciscan charism of simplicity, humility, and service.

A Mission of Collaboration

In response to this need, some of our African Sisters were sent to training colleges to pursue teacher training courses. This enabled them to collaborate effectively with the German Sisters, who were already qualified teachers. Together, they committed themselves to the important mission of educating the children.

A Holistic Education

Education was aimed not only at intellectual growth but also at moral and practical formation. The curriculum was designed to nourish both the mind and the spirit:

Languages English and local dialects
Sciences Health Education and Gardening
Humanities History and Religious Instruction
Development Physical Education

A Legacy of Inclusion

Importantly, the school was open to all children, regardless of their religious background. The Sisters believed that all are children of God. This spirit of inclusivity was maintained even during times when government policies did not support such equality.
