Our Achievements

Witnessing to the Gospel through determination, practical skills, and loving service.

Through focus and unyielding determination, the Franciscan Sisters of Siessen in South Africa have broken traditional boundaries, developing professional, technical, and artisanal expertise to sustain our mission and uplift local communities.

Healthcare & Professional Services

Our sisters serve extensively across professional sectors. Within our ranks are dedicated professional doctors, clinical psychologists, nurses, midwives, and social workers. We also have specialized formators, theologians, bookkeepers, and teachers driving our administrative and spiritual growth.

Provincial Catering Enterprise

Many of our sisters are fully trained chefs and caterers. Together, they have built a flourishing Provincial catering company that provides catering and artistic decorations for feasts, weddings, ordinations, funerals, and special events, offering crucial financial support during large congregational celebrations.

Technical Self-Reliance

We take pride in maintaining our own buildings and equipment. Trained in electrical engineering and plumbing, our sisters confidently fix electronic appliances and handle major tasks like managing our boreholes to guarantee a steady water supply. Mechanical maintenance—including changing tires and repairing vehicles—is a normal part of our hands-on daily life.

Digital Graphic Design & Technology

In step with modern communication needs, our sisters have advanced in web development and graphic design. We utilize these in-house skills to design our own promotional materials, manage our publications, and completely program and maintain our congregational websites.

Social Rehabilitation

Living out our compassionate calling, we establish and run active rehabilitation centers. These spaces offer vital structural, physical, and psychological support to vulnerable individuals struggling to navigate life's compounding hardships.

Laudato Si’ Ecological Action

Deeply aligned with Pope Francis’s environmental encyclical, we actively run community recycling initiatives. The revenue earned is used to buy seeds. We use these seeds to cultivate our mission gardens and encourage local villagers to establish vegetable patches in their own yards, sharing the resulting harvest directly with poor families on surrounding farms.

Artistic & Musical Legacies

Our congregation is home to incredible artists and musicians. This includes the legacy of the late Sr. Maria Innocentia Hummel, whose world-famous drawings and sculptures continue to bring joy in major airports globally. Our musical sisters also compose original liturgical music, filling our prayer spaces with unique hymns of praise.
