Early Life & Calling

I was born in **Modderpoort**, near Ladybrand, on January 2nd, 1933. My education journey led me to **Assisi Primary School**, which was run by the Franciscan Sisters of Siessen from Germany. I was deeply attracted to their way of life from a young age.

I remember clearly the day my class teacher asked if I would like to join them. I was delighted because I had already felt that call in my heart—though at the time, I thought such a life was only for Europeans, as I had not yet seen any African Religious sisters.

“In 1954, I finished school and joined the congregation. At that time, there were only three African Sisters in our community. My former teacher, Sr. M. Theresilla, became my Novice Mistress.”

1995-2010: St. Bernard High School, Bloemfontein

A Life of Faith

Throughout my journey, I have been sent to many places—to Johannesburg for my teacher’s course, and to Marianhill to learn about Pastoral work. My ministry eventually came full circle, returning to pastoral work in Bloemfontein, visiting different hospitals to pray and give Holy Communion to the sick.

I celebrated my 65th anniversary in 2022. Today, I have retired and am enjoying my old age in Assisi, resting in the same place where my journey began.
