Sr. M. Lucia Lenake

Master Cook • Dedicated Servant of the Community

My Roots & Calling

I am **Sr. Lucia Lenake**, originally from Hobhouse. I come from a large and loving family of 13 children. Though many of my siblings have since passed on, I carry their memory with me in my daily prayers.

My journey to the Franciscan Sisters began in 1964, brought here by **Fr. Mahara**. Initially, the plan was just to visit and "see," but the spirit of this place captured my heart, and I ended up staying. I felt a deep sense of belonging in the atmosphere here, even during the difficult years of apartheid.

"I loved my vocation dearly, inspired by the beautiful example of the late Sr. Angela. Her life helped me find my own path of service."

A Lifetime of Service

I was recognized early on as a main cook for the congregation, a ministry I embraced with joy until my retirement. My work took me to many different houses where I could serve the Sisters and students through the simple, holy act of preparing food.

Retirement & Continued Joy

After many years of serving in different locations, I have returned "home" for my retirement. While my pace has slowed, my heart for service has not. I am still cooking today, though for a smaller community now.
